Does anyone have an idea of how long these are supposed to last?Confused

Within three weeks of having one I have started with painful, hot and swollen joints. I am considerably better than before having it, so suppose I mustn't grumble - which I'm not.
I am just curious. The doctor said until such time as my new treatment kicks in ( about twelve weeks, but haven't started yet) I could have these injection every 6-8 weeks in
the interim period. Presumably the joints will just get a bit more painful until the next date arrives.

I suppose like many things medical opinion varies but I had been told that the interval would be 3 months. It's good that you're getting some relief though.

Hi Paul,

You're absolutely correct in your thinking, medical opinion on intramuscular steroids does vary. It usually depends on the condition being treated and the severity
of the problem - it can even be given daily if necessary, but all regimes would be considered 'correct' for a individual case.

I am sure there was an article somewhere on the forum that highlighted the benefits/effectiveness people found. As I said, it has helped me but not as well as I expected,
it has also given me very disturbed sleep ( a side effect) - talk about brain in gear at 3a.mLaugh

Hopefully someone will point me in the right direction.

Thanks for replying

Hi there. I have found that my condition improves for about 6 weeks after the injection and been told that I could have it done every 3 to 4 months, although I have been lucky enough not to need it as often as that. If I am going abroad on holiday, I ask for an injection beforehand as it helps me to endure long flights.

I hope you continue to get some relief and that your new medication will kick in quickly.

Thanks Karen, that's very helpful.ThumpUp

The consultant said 6-8 weeks between until such time as the new medication starts to be effective, which would take about twelve weeks.
I am seeing her tomorrow and guess I will then start this new meds. I just hope I can tolerate it as the deformity is becoming more evident now.Sad

Thanks again
